What We Do...
Our network in comprised of many organizations that specialize in a variety of fields. Here is a look at some of the things we do, that started with the help of YPNFA.
Housing and Shelter
Without a safe and affordable place to live parenting is an almost insurmountable task. YPNFA believes that every family has the right to appropriate housing for themselves and their children. A variety of housing solutions are necessary to meet the complex and changing needs of these young families. YPNFA members have developed partnerships to ensure access to a range of housing options from shelters to transitional or permanent housing.Through the supportive efforts of the YPNFA network, Humewood House Association in partnership with Toronto Community Housing Corporation has developed 1900 Sheppard Ave W. A transitional housing facility for 27 young moms and their children.
Wraparound
Young people who are homeless or street involved and facing pregnancy and parenting are often dealing with many complex issues. The Wraparound process helps youth and families in crisis to identify and utilize a highly individualized network of support (families, friends, community and professionals). In partnership with YPNFA, Lumenus Community Services receives funding to provide Wraparound Services to homeless young mothers. This model addresses the complex needs of these young families including their needs for housing and safety.
